Spark students' imaginations, encourage wonder and discovery, invite comparisons and connections, and challenge students to step outside the familiar to experience a diversity of cultures and perspectives.
The Detroit Institute of Arts offers field trips for PreK – 12 classroom groups, homeschool groups, summer and recreational camps, as well as community organizations. For groups in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, we provide free field trip admission and complimentary bus transportation as a benefit of the tri-county millage. Students outside the tri-county area have a discounted admission fee of $5.
Please note: most guided experiences are booked for the remainder of the school year. We will do our best to accommodate your group, but may contact you to discuss other date options. Teacher-led visits, with DIA resource materials for grades PreK – 12, are still available for most dates. Sign up now for new hands-on art-making visits coming in February!

Guided Gallery Experiences (Grade PreK - 12)
DIA Gallery Teachers use inquiry-based and student-centered teaching strategies to facilitate learning. All guided field trips explore art to build skills in creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and active collaborative learning.
Three to four weeks before your visit, a Gallery Teacher will contact you to discuss ideas and activities for engaging students and provide you with more information.
Teacher-Led Visit (Grades PreK - 12)
Make the DIA an extension of your classroom. A teacher-led field trip allows you to tailor your experience and work directly with your students in the museum.
We provide helpful online teaching resources, including graphic organizers tied to various curriculum areas, lesson plans, and writing prompts.
