An American in Rome (Un americano a Roma)
(Italy/1954—directed by Steno)
The brilliant Alberto Sordi (The White Sheik, Il Boom) has one of his most famous and beloved roles as Nando, an obsessive fan of all things American – particularly the movies – who bides his time imitating John Wayne and criminally overusing ketchup as he tries desperately to contrive a scheme that will take him from his “ordinary” existence in Rome to his dream life in the USA. (94 min.)
The 17th annual “Week of Italian Language in the World” (La Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo) celebration – an annual event organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – focuses on the great legacy of Italian movies, and is presented in partnership with the Consulate of Italy in Detroit and Istituto Luce Cinecittà.
