Artist Demonstration | Gayle Watson
Learn about the Japanese cut-paper art technique called Notan with Detroit artist Gayle Watson. Gayle will teach visitors about this design method and give them a chance to create compositions by cutting out shapes and juxtaposing light and dark paper to make mirror images.
Gayle began tapping into her creative spirit after retiring from AT&T with help from her fine arts classes at the Hannan Center in Detroit.
In addition to her cut-paper art she also works with ceramics, printmaking and drawing. Gayle has exhibited her work at numerous venues throughout Ann Arbor, Hamtramck and Detroit, including the DIA as part of the annual Community Group Show.
