Born In Flames
Born In Flames. 1983. USA. Directed by Lizzie Borden. 90 min.
The movie that rocked the foundations of the early indie film world, this provocative, angry and still-relevant groundbreaker is a seriocomic fantasy of female rebellion set in America ten years after the Second American Revolution. When Adelaide Norris (Jean Satterfield), the black radical founder of the Women's Army, is mysteriously killed, a diverse coalition of women-across all lines of race, class, and sexual preference- emerges to attempt to blow the System apart. The huge cast of Born In Flames includes an early-career camero from director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) portraying a newspaper editor, and the first (don't blink) on-screen appearance of writer-performer Eric Bogosian.
