Concert of Colors: Nanny Assiss & Sounds of Brazil

Nanny Assis was born in the northeastern Brazilian city of Salvador, one of Brazil’s first cities with predominant African influences. That, in part, explains why Nanny has music running through his veins, making him an outstanding singer, a terrific drummer/percussionist, and a talented songwriter working in Bossa Nova, Brazilian Jazz, Forro and Afro-Brazilian instrumental traditions. Since 1986, when he began his professional career, Assis has played with artists like Vinicius Cantauria, Eumir Deodato, and John Patitucci.

After 1999 Assis toured extensively in Europe, including a performance at Queen Elizabeth’s Hall in London, and made New York City, his current artistic hub where he has appeared at Birdland, Zinc Bar, Blue Note and Joe’s Pub. He has established himself as a master of stirring Brazilian rhythms with the power to move hearts and audiences to levantando poeira (raise the dust) in spontaneous dance.

All performances are free, those scheduled for inside the Detroit Film Theatre require online ticket registration. For the complete 2022 Concert of Colors concert schedule visit concertofcolors.com.
