Friday Night Live! Detroit Mariachi Traditions

In celebration of the opening weekend of the DIA’s Ofrenda exhibition, Salvador Torres and El Mariachi Mexico 2000 honor the rich tradition of Mariachi music in Detroit’s past. Most mariachi songs are about machismo, love, betrayal, death, politics, revolutionary heroes and even animals and country. This performance concentrates on the idea of the passing on of mariachi tradition by generations of musicians.

Friday Night Live! is supported by your tri-county millage investment in the DIA. General admission is free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
