Give Me Liberty
(USA/2019/directed by Kirill Mikhanovsky)
Milwaukee medical transport driver Vic (Chris Galust) is running late for his pickups and drop-offs thanks not only to road closures; Vic’s Russian-born grandfather and his gaggle of elderly émigré friends are late for a funeral, resulting in more delays and barely controlled chaos when Vic agrees to pack them into the van as well.
Rich with unexpected turns and marvelous performances (including Lauren “Lolo” Spencer in a breakout role), the collective ride that is Give Me Liberty careens energetically into a hilarious, compassionate intersection of American dreams, disenchantment, empathy, and above all, hope. Cannes, Sundance, and Jerusalem Film Festivals (Spirit of Freedom Award Winner for Best Feature Film). In Russian and English with English subtitles. (110 min.)
“Delightfully unpredictable from scene to scene, Give Me Liberty draws you in with moving performances and blasts of broad, hilarious comedy.” -Manohla Dargis, The New York Times
