HOMEMADE – A Grandparent’s Day Celebration

Please join the DIA and our host, Satori Shakoor, as we take a moment to honor grandparents with heartwarming stories of life and love.

Be inspired by homemade videos from local storytellers that highlight the beauty and resilience of families.

Community Storytellers:

The Selection Process

In celebration of Grandparents Day 2021, the Detroit Institute of Arts posted an open call, via the DIA website, inviting tri-county residents to share 5-10 minute self-recorded stories on the experience of grandparenting from the perspective of grandparents, families, chosen families, or friends.

Call respondents were required to provide a story theme and be available to participate in storytelling workshops with Satori Shakoor from The Secret Society Of Twisted Storytellers.

Selections were based on the cohesiveness of theme, workshop availability, and the ability to provide a self-recorded “Homemade” video.
