Homeschool Afternoon: Art Exploration & Discovery
Homeschool families—get your summer started with an afternoon of exploration and discovery at the DIA! Families will have a chance to see the DIA outdoors, behind-the-scenes, and have the opportunity to create with an unconventional hands-on art-making workshop in the DIA's Learning Center Studio.
1 to 1:30 p.m.: Conservation “Virtual Field Trip” videos in Student Lunchroom
Go behind-the-scenes at the DIA Conservation Lab with Detroit Public Television! Learn the science behind art conservation, and how museum conservators solve mysteries about works of art. Recommended for children ages 10 and up.
1:30 to 2:30 p.m.: "Open Studio" Drop-In Workshop in the Learning Center Studio
Create something unique with a variety of fun and interesting materials in an open-ended Drop-In Workshop.
2 to 3 p.m.: Outdoor Tours
Join Gallery Teachers on an exploration of the DIA’s grounds to learn more about the art that lives outdoors, including the Josephine F. Ford Sculpture Garden and Rodin’s iconic Thinker. In case of rain, Gallery Teachers will lead families in interactive literacy engagement activities in the galleries.
