Homeschool Afternoon: Explore, Collaborate, and Create with Watercolor Painting

Explore the day’s theme of watercolor painting in the galleries with a customized guided experience. Then head into the DIA’s Studio to learn age-appropriate, hands-on ways to engage with watercolor paint from our teaching artists.

1:30-2:30 p.m.: Guided gallery experience 

2:30-4 p.m.: Studio art-making experience (limit of 50 participants, pre-registration is required)

Over the course of the afternoon, designed exclusively for homeschoolers, families will:

  • Learn about varied cultural and historic traditions and find inspiration from how artists have used watercolor painting in their work
  • Become comfortable using watercolor paint to create artwork

Art-making projects will be available for pickup 2-3 weeks after the workshop, please call (313) 578-6905 to arrange for pickup.  Projects not picked up within 6 months will be donated or discarded.

Admission is free for families who reside in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. All other homeschool educators can sign up for a DIA Educator Pass to receive free general admission to the museum. Museum admission is $6 for youth ages 6-17 who reside outside the tri-county area, children 5 and under receive free admission.
