Inside the Music: Carmine Street Guitars
Join WDET on-air music hosts at the movies, for new series of film documentaries and conversations exploring the work of contemporary and legendary musicians.
Once the center of the bohemian world, Greenwich Village is now home to lux restaurants and buzzer-door clothing boutiques. But one classic Village shop remains: Carmine Street Guitars. Custom guitar maker Rick Kelly builds handcrafted guitars out of old wood from New York hotels, bars and churches. Nothing looks or sounds like a Kelly guitar, which is the reason they're played by the likes of Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and Patti Smith.
Featuring a cast of just-looking legends and some virtuoso guitar demos, Carmine Street Guitars captures five days in the heart of Greenwich Village and is dedicated to the memory of frequent window-shopper Jonathan Demme. (93 min.)
