Mexican Independence Day: Sones de México Ensemble

Specializing in son, or Mexican folk music and dance, including the regional styles of huapango, gustos, chilenas, son jarocho, and more, Sones de México Ensemble educates, researches, preserves, arranges, presents, performs, and disseminates Mexican folk and traditional music and dance to children and adults of all nationalities, physical abilities, and cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The group was formed in Chicago’s historic Pilsen neighborhood in 1994 to keep the tradition of Mexican ‘son’ alive in its many regional forms.

This concert is presented by the Consulate of Mexico in Detroit and supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
