Tea-Time Theatre: The Boxtrolls
(USA/2014 - directed by Anthony Stacchi, Graham Annable, Aaron Sorenson)
Orphaned at infancy, Eggs was raised by Boxtrolls, underground dwellers who scavenge the streets of Cheesebridge by night. A surprise encounter with a human girl leads to unexpected discoveries about Eggs’ mysterious past and his imprisoned real father.
Infusing the century-old art of stop-motion with digital technology and techniques, the artists at Laika, the studio who made Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings, painstakingly create beautiful worlds that are realistically animated and make this madcap adventure perfect for the whole family. (100 min)
To celebrate the holidays the DFT Family series will host afternoon teas in the Great Hall. Young guests will be treated to light entertainment, a party hat, complimentary “tea” and cookie. Tea-time will begin at noon, and followed at 2 p.m. with free screenings of animated features in the historic DIA Auditorium. All films will be shown in English language versions.
The Detroit Film Theatre is generously supported by Buddy's Pizza and your tri-county millage investment in the DIA.
