Thursdays at the Museum: The Band Wagon (film)

(1953/directed by Vincente Minnelli)

One of the most sophisticated and charming of the great M-G-M Technicolor musicals features Fred Astaire as a “washed-up” movie star who tries his luck in a “little” show on Broadway, only to become mired in the artistic pretensions of an egomaniacal producer. On board for Astaire’s ultimate triumph are Cyd Charisse and Oscar Levant, and such great songs as “Dancing in the Dark” and “That’s Entertainment.” (112 min.)
