Detroit Institute of Arts’ art-making studio hosts open house for tri-county veterans | DIA will provide free bus transportation for groups of 20 or more

June 7, 2019 (Detroit) – The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) invites local veterans and veteran program coordinators to the museum’s art-making studio for a free special program on Thursday, June 13, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The museum is expanding its long-term partnership with the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center to offer special community programming to all veterans across Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
“The DIA is very interested in providing collaborative practices to use art as a healing tool,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “To be able to connect with the veterans across the tri-county community through the power of art is so important and we look forward to expanding and building those connections with this special veterans program.”
Veterans from the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center will be attending. The open house will feature drop-in “make and take” art-making, and a museum highlights tour. In addition, artwork from local veterans will be on display. A cookie reception will be offered at the end of the open house.
