Detroit Institute of Arts presents A Celebration of Italian Art & Cuisine | Museum partners with Italian Consulate in Detroit as part of third annual Week of Italian Cuisine

November 6, 2018 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is taking part in the worldwide “Week of Italian Cuisine” with an evening of art, dining and music on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the DIA. The celebration is also in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the DIA auxiliary Visiting Committee for European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.

A Celebration of Italian Art & Cuisine begins with tours of the DIA’s Grand Tour of Italy galleries, followed by an elegant strolling dinner featuring food and wine from various regions of Italy. In addition to appetizers such as prosciutto-wrapped pears with gorgonzola and fig jam and an array of Italian meats and cheeses, food stations feature lamb orecchiette (a pasta popular in southern Italy), roasted beet risotto with mascarpone, and porchetta (a boneless pork roast) with braised fennel, fingerling potatoes, baby carrots and an arugula citrus salad.

Among the wines served are a Cannonau from Sardinia, a Dolcetto from Piedmont and Prosecco and Soave Classico from Venice.

The purpose of the annual Week of Italian Cuisine is to spread the Italian culinary tradition, promote the Mediterranean diet and to reinforce Italian quality by educating food lovers on how to identify and appreciate authentic Italian products.

Tickets are $150 per person, and $125 for auxiliary members and advance reservations are required. Please call 313.833.4005 or visit www.dia.org/vcesda. Deadline for reservations is Monday, Nov. 26. A $500 sponsorship is available that includes two tickets and recognition in the event program.
