Detroit Institute of Arts Extends Partnership with Detroit Metropolitan Airport on the Installation of the Museum’s Popular Inside|Out Program | High-quality reproductions from the museum’s collection will be on view in North Terminal through June 2022

July 8, 2021 (DETROIT) The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) announced that the museum’s popular Inside|Out program installation in Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport’s (DTW) North Terminal has been extended through June 2022.
The partnership between the museum and the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) kicked off in August of 2019 with the unveiling of 24 high-quality reproductions from the DIA’s collection placed throughout the terminal.
The pieces are in the North Terminal in Ground Transportation and between Gates D7 and D26. The North Terminal will be named after Wayne County Executive Warren Cleage Evans in 2022.
For over 10 years, the DIA’s Inside|Out program has brought high-quality reproductions from the DIA’s collection into the community. The installation at the airport is Inside|Out’s first indoors and was planned for two years. It has now been extended one more year.
Since 2009, the museum has partnered with over 100 communities in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties for spring and summer installations. The installation at the airport will allow visitors to metro Detroit a small glimpse of the world-class art at the DIA.
“The Inside|Out program allows us a unique way to engage local residents by bringing art from the DIA into the communities in which they live, and I am pleased to extend this special installation at the airport,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “The airport installation allows us to reach visitors to the region right as they arrive, showing them the incredible culture and art that is available right here in Detroit.”
“We are delighted to extend our partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts,” said Chad Newton, WCAA CEO. “For some of our customers, their first experience in Metro Detroit is the moment they step off a plane and into one of our terminals. We are proud to welcome them to our area by highlighting a true cultural gem, the DIA. Since the unveiling of the Art in the Airport program, thousands of travelers have stopped to admire the works of art displayed at the North Terminal. We are pleased even more people will now have the chance to enjoy the Inside|Out installation at DTW.”
